All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: August 7, 1930 Winn Parish Enterprise Negro Killed By Another At Dodson Sunday Afternoon Difficulty Between Two Began At A Party Saturday Night Dodson, La., Aug. 5 - Sunday afternoon, Melvin Hundley, age 16, negro, shot and instantly killed Carey Hollins, negro, age 23, about two miles north of here, using a single-barrel shotgun. According to reports the two negroes were at a party at a negro home Saturday night and had a difficulty of a minor nature however, it is stated, that Hundley told the Hollins negro that he would see Hollins later. Sunday afternoon Hundley shot Hollins squarely in the back, the entire load taking effect, resulting in Hollins' death almost instantly. The sheriff's office was notified and Deputies Walsworth and Taylor hastened to the scene of the tragedy. Hundley was arrested at a point near the scene of the tragedy and was placed in the parish jail at Winnfield.
