All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: February 14, 1935 Winn Parish Enterprise Negro Woman Is Killed Here Wednesday Nite Robert Bernstein, Negro Man Had Not Been Caught Today Pearl Taylor, about 31 years of age, negro woman, was killed as she lay on the bed at the home of her brother, Jesse Johnson, in the Mosley Quarters, Wednesday night at about 7:15 by Robert Bernstein, negro of Hodge. According to reports, the woman had left Bernstein recently and had officers in search of him because he had stolen her clothes here and taken them to Hodge. Bernstein had threatened to kill the woman for the past two weeks. He had eluded officers. Residents of the quarters said that he came to Winnfield Wednesday from Alexandria and went to the quarters to the home of her brother. He knocked on the door and opened it at the same time. The woman was lying dressed on the bed. He accused her of putting the law on him, and shot her at close range. The bullet killed her instantly. Bernstein ran and had not been apprehended this morning. Officers began a search for him immediately. He is a native of Winnfield and well known.
