Agilee Smith And Sandidge Are Sentenced

Woman is Given Not Less Than 5 Years and Man Not Less Than 6

Agilee Smith, negro woman, was sentenced to not less than five years and not
more than 15 years in the state penitentiary at hard labor for the death of
Laura Lee Stewart, negro, for whose death she was convicted on a charge of
manslaughter recently in district court here.  She was also fined $10 and
cost.

Tom Sandidge, white man of Sikes, who was convicted of manslaughter in
connection with the death of James Hatcher, was sentenced to serve not less
than six nor more than 18 years at hard labor in the state penitentiary.  He
was fined $100 and cost.
