Durrett, chief deputy sheriff of Winn Parish for the past four years, has been named Captain of Troop E of the Department of State Police and will be in charge of State Police activities in eight Louisiana Parishes, including Winn. The appointment, which was effective Friday, July 16, was made by State Superintendent of Police Golman Grant last week. Captain Durrett's headquarters will be in Alexandria. He and Mrs. Durrett and their little daughter, Dorothy Ann, plan to move to Alexandria to make their home, in the near future. Captain Durrett has been employed as a law enforcement officer for several years. He served as a trooper on the State Police force from 1940 to 1944, when he resigned to accept the position of chief deputy sheriff of Winn Parish. He worked with former Sheriff Bryant Sholars in that capacity until June of this year. Durrett will be in charge of State Police work in Avoyelles, Natchitoches, Grant, LaSalle, Concordia, Catahoula, Rapides, and Winn Parishes.
