All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** >From the July 26, 1956 Winn Parish Enterprise-News American Sikes Man Wounded By Marshal During Scuffle Saturday Harlan Fatheree, Sikes, sustained five broken bones in his left hand from a .38 caliber pistol wound Saturday night when he was shot by Sikes Town Marshal E. E. Crain in a scuffle that resulted when Fatheree resisted arrest. The incident occurred on the Church grounds of Hart Assembly of God Church near Sikes Saturday night during church services. Fatheree allegedly pushed Marshal Crain to the ground and started to jump on him when the officer shot. The Winn Parish Sheriff's Department has charged Fatheree with resisting arrest, and disturbing the peace by being drunk. The wounded man's father, Jim Fatheree, has been charged with interfering with an officer while in the line of duty in connection with the incident. After being released from the hospital, Harlan Fatheree Thursday appeared at the Sheriff's office and signed a warrant for the arrest of Marshal Crain "for shooting Harlan Fatheree", an aggravated assault charge.
