S. Jordan announced. Ford lives in Winnfield, 811 Ames Wells Street. He is 40. His wife is the former Valentine Moore, a native of Winnfield. The Fords have two daughters, Mrs. Robert Lee Jones and Mrs. Jessie Jewett. Ford was born in Olla and is a lifelong resident of Winn Parish. He graduated from Pinecrest High School and has been in the logging business a number of years. He is a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church where he is Sunday School Superintendent and a member of the choir. He is Junior Warden of Winnfield Star Masonic Lodge No. 152, a 32nd Degree mason, a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory No. 80 of Alexandria and a member of the Jaffa Shrine Temple at Alexandria. (Sherman Ford was the first black deputy sheriff employed in Winn Parish, La., and I might add that I worked with him for over 15 years, eight of which he served as a detective under my command. He was and is a credit to his parish and fellow man and was a fine peace officer. Sherman was probably the main reason Winn Parish experienced no racial strife in the years of school desegregation as he served as a spokesperson for not only the black community but the community overall, always acting in the best interest of Winn Parish. Sherman is now retired and remains active in church and civic work).
