Quarters about 2 o'clock Sunday. A coroner's jury on Wednesday decreed that Franklin died from wounds inflicted by a shotgun loaded with squirrel shot used by Nash. During an altercation between Nash and Oscar Petree, negro, of Hodge, Franklin was killed and Petree so badly shot in the arm that it was amputated just above the elbow at a local clinic. The dispute is said to have arisen over a crap game. Nash directed his aim at Petree, the shots going through Petree's arm and killing Franklin. Petree was said to have had a pistol. Coot Farley, negro, was slightly wounded during the fray. Nash, who surrendered to M. E. Jolly, town marshal, Sunday afternoon, is being held for the grand jury's investigation.
