Wear on the Bench Has Been Dispensing Justice to Offenders, One Prisoner Has Gone to the Pen for Eight Years, Others Are Minor Offenses. Last Monday morning Judge Wear opened the June term of court and District Attorney Thornhill has been after offenders all the week with the following results: Jack Ferguson, for shooting craps, fined $ 5 and cost or 30 days in jail. Pete Samuel, larceny, plead guilty, sentenced to 60 days in jail and to pay costs. Floyd Byrd, found guilty carrying concealed weapons, fined $ 100 and cost or three months in jail. Manuel Brooks, failure to work the roads, $ 5 and costs, or 25 days. Ed Melton, assault and battery, $ 15 and costs, or 40 days. Jim Jones, retailing liquor without license, $ 100 or 6 months. Will Gardner, assault and battery, $ 30 or three months. Burk Evans, bootlegging, $ 100 and costs or 6 months in parish jail. D. Faught, same offense, got the same sentence as above. Dick Moment, shooting craps, got $ 5 and costs or 30 days. John R. Byrd, assault and battery, got $ 10 or 30 days. Howard Forbes, bootlegging, failed to appear and judgment was rendered against his sureties for $ 150 and costs. Ben Pearce, assault with intent to murder, plead guilty and was sentenced to eight years in the penitentiary. This was the man who dynamited the houses at Coldwater some weeks ago, while under the influence of liquor. Manuel Jones charged with robbery was acquitted. Nine cases remain to be disposed of.
