William Limbacker, Inquest of An inquisition taken at Winnfield, La., on the 3rd day of October, in the year 1922. Before the Coroner of the Parish of Winn. Upon view of the body of William Limbacker, there lying dead. The Jurors whose name are hereunto subscribed, having been sworn to inquire on behalf of the State, when and by what means the said William Limbacker came to his death, upon their oath do say, that the said William Limbacker came to his death, October 3, 1922, from a wound inflicted by a shot gun in the hands of Dennis Powell, being in our opinion a case of premeditated murder. Therefore we recommend that a warrant be issued charging the said Powell with murder, and that he be arrested and held to answer said charge. In testimony whereof, the coroner and Jurors of this inquest have signed our names the day and year above written. J. J. Peters, M. D. Coroner H. C. Wilson W. A. Wright J. G. Teagle W. L. Howard T. C. Blackburn Minerva Lemon sworn says: I was in the dimming (dining) room when the gun fired, there was but one shot fired. I went to the door, the front door, the main front door where the machine was. I saw William Limbacker, sitting in the swing, he was shot in one eye, he was jerking and blood was flowing from the wound, head was laying back. Dennis Powell shot him. I don't know what he shot him for, he said he shot him accidentally, he said he was shooting a hawk. I do not believe he shot him accidentally shooting at a hawk. I ran with him to his house, he tole me not to go, that would go, he did not go tell my husband. I have not seen him since then. I went to a white lady's house and told her to call a Doctor and an officer. Minerva Lemon (X) Her Mark Attest: J. J. Peters, M. D.
