All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Negro Found Guilty, Sentenced to Hang Term of Criminal Court Ends After Heavy Docket is Disposed Of; Judge Jones Presides Robert Lucas, negro, alias M. Thomas, was found guilty of murder by a jury in district court last Friday. He was charged with the murder of a negro woman, Pearl Johnson, in the Mosley quarters on the night of February 13, 1935. After the murder of the woman, Lucas disappeared and was apprehended two years later in Texarkana, Texas. He was returned to Winnfield by Sheriff Bryant Sholars and held for the criminal term of court. The date of execution will be set by Governor Richard W. Leche. The jury which tried Lucas was composed of R. A. Norred, G. W. Brunson, Frank Carpenter, M. A. Estes, Alon Carpenter, W. E. Higgs, E. V. Teddlie, Wesley Carter, W. H. Gates, C. C.
