Malone, 42, of Winnfield was found dead near the ICC railroad track, east of the 167 crossing about 9:15 a.m. Saturday, October 2, according to Winn Parish Sheriff Dan L. Page. Later that day, Michael Wade 17 of Winnfield voluntarily reported to the sheriff's office in connection with the incident and was later charged with negligent homicide and placed in the Winn Parish jail. Malone had been squirrel hunting with his brother-in-law, Carl Collins of Minden, who found the body. Malone was pronounced dead at the scene by Winn Parish Deputy Coroner Dr. John McElwee. He had been shot in the back. Sheriff Page said that the investigation was continuing and that he is waiting results of an autopsy and examination of other physical evidence by the Northwest Crime Lab in Bossier City. Funeral services for Mr. Malone were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 5. Obituary Malone Rites Conducted Tues., Oct. 5 Services for Roy Malone, 42, of Winnfield were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home here with Rev. James D. Hodgson officiating. Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Malone died of a gunshot wound while hunting Saturday, October 2, 1976. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edith Malone of Winnfield; one son, Randall Malone of Winnfield; two daughters, Miss Lacinda Malone and Miss Diedra Malone both of Winnfield; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Malone of Winnfield; one brother, Robert Malone of Bossier City, and two sisters, Mrs. Clovis Braswell of Winnfield and Mrs. Carl Collins of Minden.
