All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** >From the July 13, 1934 Winnfield News-American Ex-Convict Negro Kills Another Near St. Maurice Monday Clarence Davis, negro ex-convict, is being held in the parish jail here on the charge of shooting and killing Sam Brown, another negro, near St. Maurice Monday night. Sam Brown and his two brothers, Cleveland and Emmett Brown, were visiting the Davis negro when they became engaged in an argument, it is alleged, and in a scuffle Davis discharged a single barreled shot gun at close range, the shot entering Brown's left side just above the heart causing instant death. Sheriff Bryant Sholars was called and he immediately took into custody the alleged slayer and brought him to Winnfield where he place him in jail to await court action.
