Aug. 24, 1901
     Notice is hereby given that the following named settler has filed notice
of his intention to make final prood in support of his claim and said proof
will be made before J. T. Wallace, U. S. Commissioner at Winnfield, La., on
Sept. 27, 1901, viz:
     James M. Mayes, H E No. 23398, for the ne 1-4 of nw 1-4 section 12, tp.
11 n r l e La. Mer.
     He names the following witnesses to prove his continuous residence upon
and cultivation of said land, viz:
