All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: June 9, 1927 Winn Parish Enterprise Winnfield Rotary Club Organized A delegation of Alexandria Rotarians came to Winnfield last Thursday to participate in the ceremonies incident to perfecting final organization of the new Rotary Club here, the installation of the first officers of the Winnfield club and the presentation of its charter which now makes the new organization a part of Rotary International. The meeting was held at Hotel Colvin where a luncheon was served. In addition to the Winnfield Rotarians in attendance there were a number of ladies present. The Alexandrians present were Dr. and Mrs. J. A. White, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Chambers, Miss Margaret Chambers, Miss Annie Trichel, Miss Dorothy Cox, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Harp, J. A. R. Peart, J. E. Oliver, Dr. W. B. Corley, J. D. Boyett, Albert Lanier, Sam Haas, Jack Basle, Joe Goldberg, Claybrook Cottingham, Rev. C. A. Devane, and W. E. Brown. Kyle Ferguson, president, and Clabe Terrell, of the Leesville Rotary Club, also were present. The invocation was delivered by Albert H. Cullen, of Winnfield, and the benediction was pronounced by Rev. C. A. DeVane, of Emanuel Baptist Church, Alexandria. The address of welcome was delivered by Albert H. Cullen and the response was made by Dr. Claybrook Cottingham. An address on the subject, "Rotary in Action," was delivered by Rev. C. A. DeVane. "Rotary Fellowship" was the subject of an address by J. E. Oliver and J. A. R. Peart spoke on "Rotary Education." The presentation of the charter and the Rotary code of ethics was made by W. B. "Bill" Harp, former president of the Alexandria Rotary Club. Mr. Harp also conducted the ceremony incidental to the installation of officers of the new club. He performed these functions in an impressive manner. Miss Margaret Chambers sang in a charming manner several selections. She was accompanied on the piano by Miss Dorothy Cox. Scout Brown also lead in several selections sung by the Rotarians. Mesdames R. W. Oglesby, O. K. Allen, George Barton, Mallory Jenkins, Tracey Harrell, and Ethleen Riser were guests of the club. The following are the officers of the Winnfield Club: Albert H. Cullen, President; Judge R. W. Oglesby, Vice President; Ovey Trahan, Secretary; Mack L. Branch, Treasurer; E. P. Heard, Sergeant at Arms. The following compose the charter membership of the new club: Perry K. Abel, Oscar K. Allen, Mack L. Branch, George W. Barton, Jim E. Carter, Ashpy B. Burton, Albert H.
