W. Pasco, Muskogee, I.T. My Dear Mrs. Pasco: When I was at Worcester, Mass. a few days since my wife, Flora Nichols Wilder, asked me to write you as soon as I could concerning the last sickness and death of her dear mother, your sister Mary. As you know, Mother had been in poor health for nearly two years. She spent last winter in Alabama with Flora, and they had been home only three weeks when she died. She was tired out when they arrived here on their way home, and was worse. The exertion of going up the stairs to the elevated station was too much for her, and she fainted. I think her heart had been weak for some time. She was out again after they arrived home, and it was when visiting a patient that she took the cold which resulted in pneumonia. The doctor said the pneumonia was very slight, and she was not considered seriously ill until a few hours before she died. Sunday, May 21, her condition became alarming, and a message was sent to me. I went at once, and was at her side about 9.45 that evening. She was in a semi-conscious condition and did not know us. She spoke two or three times but did not rally, and at 11.20 we saw that loving heart cease to beat, and mother had passed away. Death seemed to come to her almost as a friend, guiding her out from the toils of pain and suffering into some haven of rest beyond. Calm and peaceful she looked in that sleep into which she fell. We buried her in a beautiful spot in Essex Center, Vermont, near where her children are buried. Funeral services were held in the Baptist Church there, and the sermon was preached by Rev. Peal C. Abbey, of Barre, Vt. Kind friends there had decorated the church with potted plants. Flora had placed roses and smilox around the dear form in the casket, and 50 white pinks, her favorite flowers, on the casket. We also took a beautiful floral pillow which we left ont he grave. I think everything was as mother would have wished. Flora has tried to bear up bravely, but the blow was too crushing not to leave its mark, and she has lost a considerable. To me, mother was always kind loving and true, and I lover her with a deeper, tenderer love than I bore for any one, save my wife and my own mother. Nothing I can say will express the loss we feel. We can only hope to be some day reunited with her in a land where there is no parting. I regret the delay in writing you, but I have not felt able to do so before. I often heard mother speak of you, and should be pleased if I could meet you. Flora sends love to you, and with kind regards, I remain, Very Truly Yours, E. Hartwell Wilder. 9 West 13th Street. Jan 11. 1922 My Dear Cousin, Your letter of the 3rd inst- is at hand and I am glad to receive it and to hear from you even if we can scarcely be said to be very well acquainted. Your father Charles Walker was own brothe to my father Silas Walker Jr sons of Silas Walker Sr our grandfather and at one time for a few years lived together on the same farm here in Westboro, each owning a half of the farm and large house and barn. This was about 1842 - 1845. Your brother Charles was born here and possibly yourself also, though I rather think you may have been born in Fayville Mass seven miles away in an adjoining town of Southboro. My father bought your fathers half about 1846 I think. I do not think your fahter & Mother were first cousins as I rahter think I should have heard my mother speak of it. Our grandfather Walker married for his second wife Hannah Metcalf Fuller of Holden, Mass [inserted above line] , so far as I know not related to your Mothers family. Our great-grandfather married Lucy Ray round in 1775. Went to housekeeping in a log house in Holden Mass where the raised a family of twelve children and where both were buried and where She died at 94 years of age. She left 70 grandchildren and 144 great-grandchildren. Hezekiah her husband served several short terms in the Contenental army. My fahter Silas Jr married Louisa Everett of Princeton Mass. and there were born to them eight children Six living to Manhood and Womanhood. Father & Mother died in Michigan in the ninties having spent their later years in that state. Three of the children are still living Melvin the writer Erastus and Myron the latter living in Grand Rapids Mich. Your brother Silas Newton used to visit us on the old farm and just preceding the outbreak of the Civil War taught the High School here. and your father while living on the farm taught School in the Village here several winters. I rember your father and Mother very well al though I was a lettle lad. The Walker stock was of the best-harvest sturdy intelligent, God fearing, and I have never known any reason to be ashamed of any of them. Now if I can add anything of interest I should be pleased to do so. I am sending under another cover a photo of grandfather Walker and his second wife who died in Westboro and are burried here. Believe yours very truly. M. H. Walker on 11 Jan 1922 at Winn, LA, USA. ================================= Children of Gilbert William5 Pasco and Eunice Maria Walker were as follows: i.
