B. Bozeman and published in this newspaper on November 7 on how Pardon Hills got its name, and your request for information about how they became known by that name. Here is the answer, as told me by my father, the late Rev. J. H. Lewis. When my father and mother married they lived at the place known as the Pardon house place, just south of the old Pardon field, and he worked the field with a yoke of oxen. The field is located about one mile east of the Harper field on the bank of Dugdemona River. He said a man by the name of Pardon settled the place, while on the dodge from the law. And it was the first place settled near the hills. Pardon was supposed to have died and was buried just south of the southeast corner of the field. This is true to the best of my knowledge. Hope this will be of help to you. I am truly yours, Luther Lewis Darius Smith, 86 year old resident of Jordan Hill community, told the Enterprise staff that he remembered the old Pardon home place and the house that eventually rotted down.
