All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: Research submitted by descendant, James Austin Jordan Eli Jordan Eli Jordan, born c. 1832 in South Carolina, and his first wife Arrenia Peoples, born. c. 1840, in Mississippi, came to Winn Parish, LA. in the 1850s. They married in Covington County, Ms., and settled in what is now known as the Jordan Hill Community southeast of Winnfield, La. Arrenia Peoples Jordan died sometime while Eli was away serving the Confederacy during the Civil War. To them were born William, born in La., about 1859, and Jefferson, born in La., about 1861. Eli went to war as a Confederate soldier around 1863 and was in Harrison's Battalion, commanded by Lt. Col. William Harrison and Major William B. Denson. He served in Company B, commanded by G. M. Sandidge. The battalion was organized about December 1863, probably in Caddo Parish, La. About January 1865, Eli joined the 6th Louisiana Cavalry, still under the command of Col. William Harrison and Lt. Col. William B. Denson, along with Majors Delacy and William J. Scott. At various times Harrison's Regiment composed part of the cavalry brigades commanded by Col. William G. Vincent and Col. Issac F. Harrison. The regiment probably disbanded in May, 1865 along with other units around Mansfield, La. Pvt. Eli Jordan, Co. B, 6th La. Cav. was listed on the rolls of prisoners of war paroled at Natchitoches, La., on June 19, 1865, and was listed as a resident of Winn Parish, La. Following the war, about 1865, Eli married Susan Crawford, and of this marriage were born Marshelia, about 1865, and Phariby, about 1867, and Eli M., about 1870, all in La. (Sources: La. Conf.
