W. La. Basketball Rally Win Over Harris in Finals Will Compete For State Honors Atlanta girls, Winn Parish basketball champions, won the title of Northwest Louisiana Basketball Champions at Natchitoches tournament Saturday when they defeated the strong Harris team, champions for the past five years, in the final game. The score was Atlanta 39, Harris 26, and the final game was played before two thousand interested spectators in the normal gym. The game was close during the first half, but the Harris team seemed to tire during the last two quarters and fell far behind. The score was 19 to 19 at the end of the first half, but the tireless playing and continuous goal shooting of the Atlanta girls piled up a good lead in the final quarter. The team received a plaque and a trophy, and each individual on the team received a gold miniature basketball. The girls' victory in the Northwest Louisiana tournament, where they competed with 54 teams, entitles them to take part in the state rally at Baton Rouge. This they expect to do. There they will meet the championship teams for the North Louisiana, the Central Louisiana, the Southwest Louisiana, and the Southeast Louisiana sections to try for state honors. High hopes are held for their winning, and all Winn Parish is backing them. >From the March 15, 1935 Winnfield News-American Atlanta Girls Winn Fourth Place At State Tournament Two Players Selected On All State Basketball Team The Atlanta High School girls basketball team emerged with fourth place honors at the state high school basketball tournament at Baton Rouge last Friday and Saturday when fourteen other teams were contenders for state championship.
