The Winn sextet was downed by perennial champ Negreet, by 48-38 in the C finals in Alexandria Saturday night. The Negreet girls had downed Calvin, another Winn team, by 59-53 in the first round play to advance to the playoff semifinals. In eliminations, Atlanta edged powerful Saline 31-30, and dropped Centerville 57-41 to enter the finals. Negreet's other victory was over Longville 52-40. In the final tilt, Atlanta battled it out for the first half, when the Sabine Parish six pulled away and stayed ahead. Annie Bell Bandy was Atlanta's big gun with 22 points in the final, while Syble Wright led Negreet with 26. Patty Bennett was Atlanta's leader in the semifinals, scoring 22 points against Centerville. In the Class A playoffs, Winnfield lost in its semifinal tilt with Winnsboro by 48-36. The game was played last Friday night in Winnsboro, and eliminated the local Tigerettes after their most successful season in recent years.
