Emmons, scholar of Sikes, was elected mayor of the Village of Sikes at a meeting in the Baptist church Wednesday night, November 27, at which time citizens of the town made their selection of officials to be submitted for approval with a petition for a town charter to the governor of the State of Louisiana. Other officials selected were: Arshal Lee Brister, marshal, who is also serving as deputy sheriff; Aldermen, S. J. Smith, H. P. Parker, Clarence Thompson, O. H. McMurry and Mrs. E. C. Willis. All officials are pictured above. The first meeting for the organization of Sikes into a town was held in September, when a petition was drawn for a town charter. Boundaries, subject to change, began 220 yards south of the southwest corner of the Dr. J. B. Parker property, north one mile to the property of Mrs. W. R. Sikes, east a mile and a quarter, sough one mile and west to the beginning. Sikes has an estimated population of 300 people. A census is being conducted at this time by a committee, Chester Erskins, chairman; Monroe Erskins and Mrs. John F. Zenter.
