Sgt. Major Carpenter Retires After 25 Years Service

Sgt. Maj. Gilliam Carpenter, First Battalion, U. S. Army Ordnance Missel and
Munitions Center and School, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., is retiring with over
25 years of military service.

During his career Carpenter, the son of Winnfield's Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
Carpenter, received among other awards, the Bronze Star Medal, the Army
Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Republic of Vietnam
Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation.

His foreign duty assignments have taken him on three tours to Germany, one to
Korea, one to Thailand, and one to Vietnam.

Carpenter will make his retirement home in Huntsville, Ala.
