A fitting tribute will be paid these brave warriors, many of whom have departed for the Great Beyond, in the dedication of this beautiful monument. The memorial, which is a drinking fountain, is a thing of beauty and of use. It is of white marble and constructed along the lines of a miniature pergola, its tiny columns supporting a stone canopy above the fountain. It adorns the right corner of the Courthouse square, facing Main Street. On the South side of the base of the memorial is the following inscription: "Lord God of Hosts, Be With Us Yet, Lest We Forget, Lest We Forget. On the west side, the Confederate emblem of crossed guns and flag, and on the North side, "In Honor of Soldiers of Winn Parish Who Fought Under the Stars and Bars." Following is a program that has been arranged for the dedication of the Confederate Memorial Fountain which will be held on Court Square at 5 o'clock this afternoon. Pickering The people of Winn Parish are proud of their gift from the William Walker Chapter U. D. C. The drinking fountain enhances the courthouse square and adds to the comfort of the thirsty. The memorial will be a means of passing on the glory of Confederate soldiers to other generations. (This fountain was removed when the current courthouse was built in 1961. After much ridicule by the late, great Winn historian H. B. Bozeman, the Winn Police Jury managed to have the contractor return a portion of the monument with a promise to return the remainder, which was never done. All that remains of this monument is the pedestal which is now situated at the southeast corner of the courthouse square)
