This file may not be uploaded to any other website or used by any person(s) in a mailing list message other than the USGenWeb Archives, Winn Par., LA without the express written permission of the submitter.*********************************************** General Affidavet For neighbors,employers.or fellow workmen of soldier,(other than relatives) who knew him before his enlistment,or since his return from the army State of Louisiana,County of Winn.In the matter of the application for pension of Mrs Mary Branch,Widow of Theophilus Branch No 617,622 co 1st. reg La.cav.Scouts.On this 2nd,day of July 1898 personally appeared before mea Clerk of Court in and for the aforesaid county,duly authorized to administer oaths,John F.Smith aged 53 years,a resident of Sills P.O. in the county of Winn and State of Louisiana whose Post-Office is Sills,Parish of Winn LA.Well known to me to be respectable and entiled to credit,and who,being duly sworn,declare in relation to the aforesaid case as follows;That he has been well and personally acquainted with Mary Branch for 50 years respectively and that Theophilus Branch her husband,was arrested by Texas confederate Cavalry,and carried away by the force,and the said Branchwas away some two or three weeks, and he then returned,and in company with this affiant,went to Alexandria,LA.and enlisted in the United States Army,affiant does not believe that said Theophilus Branch was ever in the Confederate Army,or at least on his return after he was carried away he made no mention of haveing joined said army,and affiant knows that he, Branch told him that he had gotten away from the cavalry that had arrested him,and he knows further that said Branch was not in the confederate army,prior to the time he was carried away by this cavalry,nor was he in the confederat service at any time subsequent to his return from this cavalry NO CONFEDERATE SERVICE
