This file may not be uploaded to any other website or used by any person(s) in a mailing list message other than the USGenWeb Archives, Winn Par., LA without the express written permission of the submitter.*********************************************** Box 47285 Cert.536755 Mary Branch)wid of Theopilus Branch Deposition Case of Mary Branch,NO 617422 On this 20th day of March 1902,at neae Flat Creek,ounty of Winn State of La.before me,a special examiner of the Burwau of Pensions personally appeared John W.Shumaker,who being by me first duly sworn to answer truly all interrogatories propounded to him during this special examination of aforesaid claim for pension deposes and says I am 71 years of age phys.residence near post office address is Flat Creek La.I knew Theophilus Branch for five or six years before the war he lived about 12 to 15 miles from me.This man was in company C 1`st La Cav,scouts and Iwas with him in that orgainizstion Branch was in old Dog Smith`s company awhile 10 or 15 days and deserted him at Trenton La the way I know this I was with him.I do not know whether this man`s company had any other name or not,and Ido not know to what Department of Confederate service.This was during the spring of 1864,andIdo not know whetrher Branch had been in any other Confiderate service before this time.I think that this organization was called Smith`s regiment as I think he had several picies of companies but whether it was an independent Confiderate organization or not I do not know. I have heard my statement read and my answers have been correctly recorded. John W.
