Before me S.S.Galiher,a special examiner of the Bureau of Pensions Personally appeared P.E.Grisham who being by me firet duly sworn to answer truly all interrogatories propounded to him during this special examinatoin of aforesaid claim for pension, and says I am59 years of age merchant, resedence and post office address is Dodson La I had been personally aquainted with Theophilus Branch from 1861 until his death which accurred six or seven years ago,but the exact date I do not rem- ember .I became aquainted with Mrs Branch about the same time I became acquainted with him.I know that these people lived together as husband and wife from the time I first knew themuntilnMr Branch died.I know that Mrs Branch had not been married before she married Mr Branch Mary Branch has not remarried since the death of the soldier.I that Theophilus Branch was never in any confederate service, but he was captured by some confederate soldiers and carried away to thier camp, but as soon as he could get away he returned to his home,as Iwas there when he returned.I know that this was all the time he was with the confederates.Theophilus Branch left a tract of land at the time of his death, and I think 160 acres but he might have had less. This was poor land and was not worth more than $1.25 per acre and I know that this place sold a short time ago for $100 this claimant had no means of support since the death of the soldier except she lived with her children since that time. She has lived with first one and then the other of them during this time.I did not mean that I was at Mrs Branch`s house when Theophilus Branch returned from the confederates, but when he returned from the union army.I have heard affidavit read and must state that I made this affidavit soon after the death of Branch, and i am satisfied that I knew that hte date of his death, but I do not remember now.I lived on an adjoining place to Mr Branch and helped to bury him.I have heard my statement read and my answers have been correctly recorded. P.E.Grisham Deponent Sworn to and subscribed before me this 18 day of June 1902, and Icertify that the contents were fully made known to deponent before signing. S.S.Galiher
