I had known Theophilus Branch for several years before the war and infact knew him farily well before he married. If this man was ever married after he came to this neighbor- hood and before he married Mary Dyess I had no knowledge of it.I think that he came from Mississippi to this neighborhood.I think that Theophilus Branch was not in the confederate service, but he was absent from the neighborhood awhile and if he was inthe federal service that must have been the time, although I did not know that he was in the union army but later heard he recived a pension. If I ever heard that the confederates took him up during the war I have forgotten it.I knew the claimant before she was married to Theophilus Branch, her name was Mary Dyess, and I am positive that she had not been married before she married Branch.Iknow that these people lived togather from their marriage until Branch died.I was not at thier marriage but I heard of it at the time I have my statement read and my answers have been correctly recorded. J.C.Adams Sworn to and subscribed before me this 20,day of June,1902 and I certify that the contents were fully made known to deponent before signing S.S.Galiher
