I knew him soon after he came to this country.Branch was not a married man when I first became acquainted with him.I knew Mary Dyess when she a young girl, and know that she was not married, until she married Theophilus Branch.I know when these people were married, but I was not present when they were married.Theophilus Branch rode a horse that belonged to my father when he went to get his license.I know that these people lived together from their marriage until his death, but I do not remember the date of his death.I lived a neighbor to Branch from my boyhood up, and he was at my wedding.I lived near Branch during the war,and I lay out in the woods with him quite a long time.Branch left me in the woods to go home and while he was gone home a squad of confederates captured him,and took him away.I do not think this man was away longer than six weeks and he may not have been gone nore than two weeks. It has been so long ago that I can not be positive as to how long he was away I know when Branch came back as we went to Alexandria together.and he joined the union army there.I know that Theophilus Branch WAS never taken up by the confederates, but this one time as this was the first time and he soon went into the union army. I did not enlist in the federal army although I went to alexandria with him when he did.If I am mistaken it was a squad of Burlesous cavalry Texas troops that caught Branch I have heard my affidavit read and it is correct, and does not materially differ from the statement you have just takrn from me.
