This file may not be uploaded to any other website or used by any person(s) in a mailing list message other than the USGenWeb Archives, Winn Par., LA without the express written permission of the submitter.*********************************************** Claimants STATEMENT Deposition Case of Mary Branch,No 617622 On this 18th,day of June 1902,at near Gaars Mills,county of Winn State of La,before me S.S.Galiher,a Special examiner of Pensions, personally appeared claimant,the applicant in the aforesaid pension claim,who says:Q.If it should become necessary to further examine your claim,by taking testimony of witnesses elsewhere,do you desire to be present in person or represented by an attorney,or both,at such further examination?If so you will be notified as to the place and time when it ie to be made.A.I do not Q.Should you change your mind And desire to be present,or be represented by an attorney,during any further examination of your case,will you at once address a letter to the Commissioner of Pensions,Washington,D.C giving the name and the number of your claim,informing him that you have so changed your mind,and desire to be notified when your claim is to be further examined? A. I will Q. State the names of the person or persons insturmental in the prosecution of your claim for pension,and their post office address. A. J.T.Wallace,Winnfield La Q. State what contracts you have made with such person or persons for their services in prosecuting your claim for pension, and whether such contract or contracts were written or verbal. A. Wallace has a contract as attorney but the amount I am to pay him is not stated in that contract I agreed by word of mouth to pay him ten dollars if my penson is allowed. Q. State the amount of fees paid by you or at your instance,to whom paid.all the circumstances connected with the transaction. A. I have paid out something for stamps but the amount I do not know.Most of my papers were prepared by and exiquted before R.C. Jones and I have not paid him,but I have agreed to do so if my penson is allowed.Q. Please give me the names of all witnesses thwt you desire examined elsewhere,with their post-office addresses,and also state what you expect to prove by each witness.A. Vicena Dyess,Hill La.Nancy Bennett Hickory Valley,La.and John F.Smith Hickory Valley La.I expect to prove by the first two that nether I nor the soldier had been prevously married By Smith I expect to prove that my husband had no voluntary confederate service.Q.
