All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: August 26, 1943 Winn Parish Enterprise Patriotic Sikes Youth, 14, Joins Navy; Discharged The patriotic feeling that "this is every American's war" was probably the motive which prompted 14 year old Fontaine Emmons of Sikes to join the Navy about six weeks ago. Young Emmons enlisted at the Shreveport recruiting station, as a 17 year old, using his brother's birth certificate. He entered service as Glenroy Emmons. His parents notified the Naval authorities that their son was only 14 years old and after undergoing three weeks of his "boot" training in San Diego, Calif., the young Apprentice Seaman was given an honorable release from service. Young Emmons is a tenth grade student in the Sikes High School and is the sone of Mr. and Mrs. Winfred S. Emmons of Sikes.
