J. P. Cole, state guard executive officer, Baton Rouge, announced the appointment this week of Ovey Trahan to command a company of the state guard to be organized in Winnfield. Mr. Trahan was commissioned a captain, and Kenneth Watts and Louis Temple were commissioned lieutenants to assist him. Men from 18 to 60 are eligible to join the unit, Captain Trahan announced. The purpose of the organization is to have a trained group in case of a local or state emergency. Men interested are asked to give their names to any one of the officers. The State Guard Of Louisiana is composed of 10 battalions, and Winnfield has been assigned to Company B, Ninth Battalion. Officers of the Guard are required to be veterans of the First World War.
