A. L. Allen Dement Hughes, son of Rev. and Mrs. O. L. Hughes of Winnfield, has been notified by Congressman A. Leonard Allen that he has passed the physical examination for entrance into West Point Military Academy and to report at New York on July 1st. Hughes was given the principal appointment by Congressman Allen and is the first youth to be accepted for the academy from Congressman Allen's district, since Congressman Allen has been in office. He was exempt from taking the mental test because average in high school and college. He is a senior at Louisiana Tech and was fourth honor student in a class of 64 in the 1936 graduating class of Winnfield. On March 5 he went to Hot Springs, Ark., where he took the physical examination.
