Davies 120 Ted Price Lane Winnfield, LA 71483 DAVID PIERSON CAMP Confederate Veterans Organized a Camp Here Last Saturday Evening In answer to the call made through the Southern Sentinel and Dodson Times, quite a number of the old veterans met at the court house on Saturday the 24, and organized a camp of Confederate Veterans to be known as David Pierson Camp. The naming of the camp was unanimous. Col. David Pierson after, whom this camp was named, came to Winn Parish before the war and commenced the practice of law. He was elected a member of the constitutional convention that adopted the secession ordinance and while he voted in the convention against the ordinance, he came home and cast his lot with his state and immediately set about to raise a company, which he did. He was elected captain of the old Winn Rifles, which became a part of the f amous 3rd Louisiana. he served with distinction in all of the campaigns and battles in which that famous old regiment was engaged and was badly wounded in the head, which finally caused his death. The naming of the camp after this illustrious soldier, statesman and jurist, was in every respect appropriate. The feeling manner in which his old comrades in arms spoke of his memory is a monument more to be desired than one of stone. The following is a roster of the camp as organized that day: George A.
