Col. George E. Roberts, Jr., retired from the U. S. Army Reserve in special ceremonies at Bossier City, September 9, 1978 after 36 years of military service. Roberts, a native of Winn Parish, was graduated from Dodson High School in 1935. He began his military career in March, 1941 as a private, serving at Fort Bragg, N. C., Camp Adair, Or., Camp Shelby, Miss., and Second Army Headquarters in Memphis, Tenn., where he was discharged as a Technical Sergeant in October, 1945. While a student at Louisiana College he joined the Louisiana National Guard in November, 1946, when it was reactivated following World War II. Upon graduating from New Orleans Theological Seminary in 1951, he entered the Army as a chaplain, serving at Fort Bliss, TX., Fort Polk, Fort Riley, KS., and with the 3rd Infantry Division in Korea. After three years of active duty he transferred to the reserve in 1954. For the past seven years he has been senior Chaplain for the 4013th U. S. Army Garrison in Bossier City. In civilian life Roberts is employed by the Louisiana Baptist Convention as Director of Missions for the area of central Louisiana. He and his wife live in Pineville. They have five children, all married. He has served as pastor of churches at Manifest and Dodson, Louisiana, Junction City, Kansas, and Levelland, Texas. Before coming to his present position in 1970 he served 13 years as director of missions in Topeka, KS.
