S. ARMY, VIETNAM (AH-TNC) Army Platoon Sergeant John C. R. Randle, son of Mrs James R. Hodges, Route 2, Winnfield, is currently participating in Operation "Attleboro" with the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam. Sgt. Randle, a communications chief of 2nd Battalion of the division's 27th Infantry, is taking part in the largest operation fought in Vietnam to date. Since beginning Nov. 3 in the jungles of Tay Ninh Province, "Attleboro" has resulted in over 1,000 dead Viet Cong and in 2,000 tons of VC rice being recovered. The 25th Infantry Division, 196th Light Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry Division and elements of the 4th Infantry Division and 173 Airborne Brigade are taking part in the operation. Sgt. Randle entered the Army in August 1949 and was stationed at Schovield Barracks, Hawaii, before arriving in Vietnam in January of this year. He was graduated from Georgetown High School in 1949. Sgt. Randle, whose wife, Betty, lives at 2227 Audubon Ave., Columbia, SC, has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism, the Air Medal, and the Purple Heart Medal.
