Local Man Receives R. A. Commission as First Lieutenant

Lt. Col. Melvin Sowers has received a permanent commission as First Lieutenant
in the Regular Army, according to an announcement by the War Department.

A bomber pilot overseas during the war, Colonel Sowers now is stationed at
Washington, D. C., on duty at the Pentagon building with the War Department. 
With his wife and their daughter, Cynthia Anne, he resides in Washington.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sowers in Winnfield.
