GAMBLE ACQUITTED. Jury Returns Verdict After Deliberating Eleven Minutes. Winnfield, La., Dec. 18. – The trial of E.J. Gamble, of St. Maurice, for killing J.A. Graham, of the same place on the 23rd of June, was concluded here Saturday night after taking evidence for two days. The jury was out eleven minutes and returned a verdict of acquittal. This was the expected outcome as the facts were generally known. It will be recalled that the two men had a quarrel about 4 o’clock in the afternoon on the day of the killing and Graham who lived out of the town two miles, went after his shot gun. Mr. Gamble got his and when Graham returned several men tried to keep him from going to where Gamble was but with out avail. He located Gamble and fired at him twice. The fire was returned and Graham was wounded fatally, Gamble coming off unhurt, after Graham fired the third time. Nearly fifty witnesses were summoned only five or six being eye witnesses, the others testifying to threats by Graham and his dangerous character.
