Garriss, Shreveport, Named Detective Chief Clyde C. Garriss, 49, formerly of Winnfield and a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Garriss of Winnfield, last week was promoted to captain of detectives in the Shreveport Police Department. Promotion of the veteran officer to this key position, which also carries the title chief of detectives, was announced by Public Safety Commissioner A. B. "Kotton" Morris. Commissioner Morris said the promotion "had been given careful consideration and study" and that the background and character of the appointee as well as his ability and experience were also taken into consideration. Detective Garriss is married to the former Leita Dyson of Montgomery and they have one daughter, Mrs. Agnes Lewis, Houston, Texas. Eldest of the Garriss children, the detective has two brothers, A. E. Garriss of Winnfield, B. C. Garriss of Minden, and one sister, Mrs. H. A. Porter of Winnfield. He is a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, and the First Baptist Church, Shreveport.
