Harper To Plant Louisiana Flag At South Pole


A Winnfield man, Navy Petty Officer David Harper, recently was presented a
Louisiana state flag by Lt. Gov. Lethar Frazer, to be planted near the South
Pole.

Harper is slated to leave Quonnet Point, R. I., September 22 for McMurdy Sound
at the South Pole.  He is a weather observer in the U. S. Navy Geophysical and
said he would plant the flag as close as possible to the pole itself.

Harper will return to the States in 1959.
