J. E. Carter Name On State Colony Governing Board


J. E. Carter of Winnfield has been appointed a member of the Board of
Administrators of the State Colony and Training School in Alexandria,
succeeding Bryant Sholars, also of Winnfield, who resigned from the Board
recently to accept a position as building superintendent at the Colony.

Mr. Carter received his commission last week from Governor Long and was given
the oath of office Friday by Clerk of Court C. F. Walsworth.  Mr. Carter said
he has not yet attended a meeting of the Board and knew nothing of the
appointment until he received official notification last week.

Mr. Sholars began his new duties at the Colony last week.  He will be in
charge of a $200,000 building program at the Colony and will supervise the
project.  E. B. Rogers, Board chairman, said the appointment was made by
"informal agreement" several days ago.
