HEFLIN A Brief Sketch of the Man for the Office of Sheriff of This Parish [Photo} In this issue of The Sentinel will be found the formal announcement of W.T. Heflin for Sheriff of Winn Parish. Four years ago Mr. Heflin announced himself as a candidate for sheriff, but soon withdrew from the race after promising his friends and supporters he would be a candidate to a finish four years hence. True to his promise made at that time, he is now before the people of this parish, asking them to consider his candidacy and qualifications for this important office. Mr. Heflin is forty-six years of age. He was born and reared on a farm near Minden in Webster Parish, where he worked until he was eighteen years of age at which time hel left his father's farm, taught school and made money enough to send himself to school at Mt. Lebanon Baptist College at the Jefferson Davis College of Minden. After this, while teaching, he came to Grant Parish, where he taught his last school, and in 1895 entered the saw mill buisness and followed it until 1904, when he moved to Winnfield, where he and his family have since lived. Since moving to Winnfield Mr. Heflin has been engaged in the business of making, buying and selling ties and staves. Mr. Heflin is a self-made man, and has closely and unselfishly identified himself with every movement which has for its purpose the moral or education uplift of his town and parish. He is far and above board in all his dealings and has none of the characteristics of the demagogue. He is a splendid mixer and wherever he is known his friends are both loyal and legion, and will take special pride in assisting him to secure the position he seeks. We commend his candidacy as deserving the serious consideration of the people. [SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Mr. Heflin was successful in his bid for Sheriff of Winn Parish and served in that capacity for 12 years, 1916-1928.]
