Son Of Hargis Residents Wins Bid For Rep.

J. C. Deen, 49, of Route 2, Benton, La., where he has lived for the past 25
years was successful in his bid for state representative.

He was faced with a Republican opponent in the general election.

He served as a member of the Bossier Parish Police jury since 1960.

Mr. Deen, formerly of Grant Parish, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Deen of
Hargis Community.  A 1940 graduate of Montgomery High School, he received his
B. S. degree from Southwestern University, M. A. degree from the University of
Arkansas, and did post-graduate work at Northwestern University and is
presently principal of Rocky Mount High School where he had been a faculty
member for several years.

He is a member of the Ivan Baptist Church where he is a deacon, a member of
the Cypress Masonic Lodge No. 89, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Caddo
Parish Cattleman's Association, and a veteran of World War II.

Mr. Deen is married to the former Evelyn Young and the father of four
children, Larry, Duane, Debbie, and Pam.
