Tracy Harrel is Winner Over Long For Committeeman

Tracy Harrel, co-owner of Harrel Builders Supply Company here, won 2887-2458
vote lead over Governor Earl Long of Winnfield in the race for State
Democratic Central Committee member from Winn.  Three small precincts are not
reported in this total, none of which could give Long a victory.

This race was closely observed in the Parish and the State, rating special
mention on the front pages of several State dailies.  Harrel ran neck and neck
with the Governor in most country boxes, and was given almost a 2-1 majority
in the Winnfield precincts. 

The State Central Committee is the governing body of the State Democratic
Party, and votes in the selection of the Democratic presidential candidate in
the National convention.
