All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: April 7, 1950 Winnfield News-American Sholars Is State Colony Head, Long Runs For Congress Bryant Sholars, prominent Winnfield citizen and Sheriff of Winn Parish for 20 years, was appointed superintendent of the State Colony and Training School in Pineville, effective April 1. He succeeds Dr. George S. Long who resigned effective that date and announced that he plans to seek election as United States representative for the Eighth Congressional District in the July primary election. Mr. Sholars was named building superintendent at the Colony in 1949 and last month was promoted to assistant superintendent. At a meeting Friday night, March 31, the Board of Directors appointed him superintendent. Mr. and Mrs. Sholars have resided at the Colony for the past several months. Mr. Sholars, former member of the Colony's board of directors, had been assistant superintendent since the latter part of March. Dr. Long, brother of Governor Earl K. Long, had served as superintendent since 1948. J. E. Carter of Winnfield is a member of the Colony's board of directors.
