Tinnerello received his appointment in a letter from Gov. Edwin Edwards last week. "What we are supposed to do is find out what are the major needs for different areas of the state, and to work with the governor in meeting these needs," Tinnerello said. "This is a 10 year program for the 80s, and it will work in the areas of education, industry, and community activities." Tinnerello said he learned of his nomination by State Senator Don Kelly two months ago, and he learned of his appointment from Governor Edwards in a letter last week. "The letter informed me I had been selected if I would serve," Tinnerello said. "And I will serve this area the best I can." The first meeting is slated for April 26 at Louisiana College in Pineville, and Tinnerello said he would learn more of what the task force he is on will be doing. Tinnerello is a biology teacher at Winnfield Senior High School and has been a teacher in Winn Parish for ten years. He received his B. A. degree from Northeast Louisiana University and he has a Masters in Supervision and Administration from Northwestern State University where he is currently working on his plus 30. The new program is an extension of the "Goals For Louisiana" which was set up under the administration of Gov. John McKeithen. The education committee will meet six times in the next 12 weeks, according to Tinnerello. "It is an honor to be named to this committee," Tinnerello said. "Before the first meeting, I plan a meeting with Tommy Bankston, Winn Parish Superintendent of Schools, officials at NSU, and other education heads in my region to find out what they feel the priorities are in this area." Tinnerello is a member of the teacher Center Policy Board of NSU, which is set up to get satellite programs for in-service teachers. "In working on this program, I will represent my area the best I can," Tinnerello said. "I will let the people in my area know what we are doing by giving them reports in the local media. To serve the people is what I was appointed to do."
