R. Terral of Dodson Observe 69th Wedding Anniversary Saturday, Feb. 23, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Terral celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary at their home in Dodson. Mr. Terral (Uncle Shep as he is known) was born and reared one mile east of Dodson and has lived in the Dodson community all his life. He was born Jan. 27, 1864, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Terral, pioneer citizens of this community and of Winn Parish. Mrs. Terral was born in Jackson Parish near Walker on Aug. 13, 1869, and her parents were Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Eldridge. Mr. and Mrs. Terral were united in marriage Feb. 23, 1888, the ceremony taking place at her parents' home in Jackson Parish, with the Rev. A. M. Wailes, a Methodist minister, officiating, and witnesses were A. H. Temple, W. S. Sanders and J. T. Walsworth, all of whom have passed on. Among those attending the ceremony now living are Mrs. Ida Anders, a sister of Mrs. Terral, and Willie Walker of Walker. To this union was born 11 children, five boys and six girls, five of whom have died, and the six living are James Terral of El Dorado, Ark., Mrs. Martha Anderson of Monroe, Mrs. Paul LeBlanc of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Clifford Moffett of Jennings, and George Terral and Mrs. Eloise Gilmore of Dodson. They have 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. During his active years Mr. Terral was a stock raiser and farmer, and even now for his age he has a remarkable clear memory, especially of the past. He told your reporter, "I can well remember when we bought flour by the barrel, also meal, paying $2.50 for flour and $1.25 for meal, and Miss Lizzie (referring to his wife) cooked 12 barrels a year, one every month." At present both Mr. and Mrs. Terral are in ill health. During the day many friends called and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Terral and wished them many happy returns. Those of the family, who were able to be present with them were Mr. and Mrs. George Terral, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gilmore, Mr. and Mrs. James Terral, Mrs. Martha Anderson, and of the grandchildren, Mrs. Grace Sanders of Angola, Miss Devona and Jimmie Terral of El Dorado, Ark., and the great-grandchildren, Dianne, Dale and Tommy Sanders, of Angola. Through God's goodness they have traveled a long road together, and altho it has not always been a bed of roses love, faith has lighted the way and seen them through, bringing peace and contentment in their declining years.
