M. Webb Formerly of Winn Celebrate 64th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Webb of 914 Elliott Street, Alexandria, former residents of Winn Parish, were married 64 years ago on June 2. Because of Mrs. Webb's failing health, the anniversary was observed quietly by close relatives calling to extend congratulations. It is said that no other couple living in Rapides Parish has reached their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary, and it is not know that any couple in Winn Parish has such a record. Winn Parish claims a large interest in this grand elderly couple, because of their long residence here, and because of Mr. Webb's connection with the political history of this section. He was a member of the Winn Parish police jury from 1904 to 1908 and served a second term from 1912 to 1916. He was justice of the peace from 1892 to 1900 and again from 1908 to 1912. He took an active interest in Winn Parish affairs and using an expression peculiar to this section, "rode for every sheriff" from the late J. H. Crawford in 1892 to W. T. Heflin in 1916. About 20 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Webb moved from Atlanta, Winn Parish, to Alexandria, where they conducted a rooming house. The home-like atmosphere of their place attracted many to their door. May of their guests remained with them until other positions or interests called them elsewhere. Mr. and Mrs. Webb are pleasant and young in spirit despite the fact that Mr. Webb passed his eighty-fifth birthday on last May 21, and Mrs. Webb will be 85 on next Dec. 4. They were married in Magnolia, Columbia County, Ark., on June 2, 1872. Rev. L. W. Baker, Baptist minister, performed the ceremony. They removed from Arkansas and settled at Atlanta, Winn Parish, in January, 1890. Mr. Webb followed the occupation of farming until he moved to Alexandria 20 years ago. He said when they left Arkansas their friends told them that if they wanted to come back and couldn't, to write to them and they would send for them. He says that they have never written for their love of Winn Parish had increased with each succeeding year, and though they reside in Alexandria, they still consider Winn Parish their home. Mr. and Mrs. Webb have 5 daughters, 20 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. There are frequently five generations in a gathering of relatives when Mr. and Mrs. Webb visit their children in Atlanta. Their children are Mrs. B. Gresham and Mrs. J. M. McElroy of Atlanta, Mrs. E. Perryman and Mrs. J. H. Sutton of Alexandria, and Mrs. J. B. Groves of Winnfield.
