Attached to the box in which the glove was packed was a card bearing the words "To Ty Smart from Ty Cobb." Tyrus Smart was born 13 years ago and Mr. and Mrs. Smart named their son after the famous player whose brilliant career they had followed through the years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Smart are baseball fans and Willie formerly played with the Winnfield team on the old Ouachita Valley League. He recalls playing against such famous big-league players as Schoolboy Rowe and Atley Donald. The great Ty Cobb retired from active play quite a number of years ago and is now making his home in Glenbrook, Douglas County, Nevada. Several months ago he received a letter from Mrs. Smart, telling him of his namesake, Tyrus Raymond Smart. Not long ago the Smarts received a letter from Ty Cobb's secretary, explaining that a gift was being sent. Cobb himself wrote a post script, telling them that he was ill and not able to write a letter himself. The glove arrived soon thereafter, and Ty Smart is really proud of his present from the great old man of baseball.
