Included among the list of honorees was Winnfield's Johnny Jackson. Jackson was a track and football performer for the Demons in the late 1940s, enrolling at Northwestern State after completing service in the U. S. Navy in the fall of 1946. As a running back, he was selected to the first team All-Gulf States Conference Team in 1947 and competed in the 100 and 200 meter dashes along with the 440 and 880 relay teams. He was a member of the 1947 track foursome that won the Southwestern team track title. Jackson explained that, in order to be eligible for the Hall of Fame, nominees must be members of the "N" Club, having participated and lettered in one or more varsity sports at NSU. "A committee nominates athletes from past lists," he noted, "and then the members vote on the nominees." Jackson had been nominated once before but this was his first time to be selected. The top honor for any NSU athlete is induction into the Graduate "N" Hall of Fame which is located in the front foyer of Prather Coliseum, where 85 former Demon and Lady Demon athletes are enshrined. This year's ceremonies were held Saturday, October 3, during the NSU-NLU football contest.
