All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: May 14, 1964 Winn Parish Enterprise-News American Atlanta, Goldonna Men Place Sikes Eagles Third In State Class C Track; Sprinter Roger Parker Wins Three 1st Places Sikes' swift Eagles were plucked thoroughly by Roanoke and Loranger at the State Class C Track Meet at Northwestern State Friday, but sprinter Roger Parker emerged the meet iron man carrying away three first place events. Parker completely outclassed the field in the 100 and 220 sprints making the century in 10.1 and the longer run in 22.1. He sailed 21-4 ª in the broad jump and ran a splendid anchor leg in the 440 relay in which Sikes finished second to the winners. Sikes had gone into the meet qualified in 10 of the 14 events. Qualifying is done at the regional meet where first place winners in each event are entered in state. Sikes had no entries in the 880 relay, shot put, discus, nor triple jump. Bobby Lashley of Atlanta ran a strong half mile (2:13.0) and came in third behind Roger Dupont of Roanoke. Herman Trichel of Goldonna was second in the mile won by Ken Theriot, St. Bernard of Breaux Bridge in 4:39.0. Team scoring: Roanoke 49, Loranger 37 ®, Sikes 30 ®, Goldonna and Atlanta 4, tied for 21st place. Bruce Crain of Sikes placed fifth in the 880. R. A. Dunn, of Sikes, placed fifth in the low hurdles. Sikes was fifth in the mile relay. Ronald Rice of Atlanta placed fifth in the triple jump. Cliff Underwood, of Sikes, placed fifth in the javelin.
