They made a splendid showing although they were defeated in the finals by Ouachita Parish team, state champions for the past three years. The average height of the experienced Ouachita players over the Calvin team could hardly be expressed in inches, but better by feet. The little Calvin girls pledge themselves to eat more spinach between now and the next tournament. The Calvin girls advanced to the finals by defeating St. Charles in the first round, Lyon High in the quarter-finals, and Doyle in the semi-finals. The tree above mentioned being first place teams in their district tournaments. The smooth passing attack of the little fast Calvin team won for them, over the three strong teams defeated. Anna Bell Rudd played brilliantly for her team throughout the tournament and was selected as one of the three all-state forwards. She made a number of long shots as well as crips. Helen Carpenter and Delores Howard's abilities to pass and convert a number of points for their team helped plenty. Little Elsie Carter's (substitute forward) cooperated in the last two games. Fast passing ability must not be overlooked. Arlene Carter, Anna Mae Carter, Dorothy Brown, Hazel Carson, Rosa Mae Collins, guards for the Calvin team, played havoc with the three defeated teams' offense and gave a net exhibition of pass work throughout the games. Arlene Carter's smooth, graceful ability to guard won for her the title of all-state player. The girls were congratulated by the officials on their splendid cooperation and sportsmanship. They were also commended on their behavior and politeness. The Calvin team was tutored by Miss Alma C. Pepper, former coach of the Fairview High School team which took third place at the State Rally in 1932 and won the State Championship in 1933.
